The Venetian Macao
A Screen Worthy of the NBA’s Return to China
When the NBA China Games returned after nearly six years away, the stakes were high for Sands China. The Venetian Macao would host two preseason games featuring the Brooklyn Nets and Phoenix Suns in October 2025, welcoming global attention back to a key market for the league. The moment demanded an arena experience that felt bold, elevated, and worthy of the NBA’s long-awaited return. To meet that challenge, Sands turned to Solotech to design and deliver a custom LED installation that could transform the venue under a highly compressed timeline.
Solotech was involved from early engineering alignment through system validation. With extensive experience in large-scale sports and entertainment environments, our team worked closely with Sands China’s technical group to translate their vision into a buildable, safe, and high-performing LED system. The installation featured ROE Visual’s Topaz 2.6 LED panels, totaling more than 2,000 units and covering roughly 500 square meters—an ideal balance of visual impact, modularity, and long-term flexibility.
What began as a traditional four-sided jumbotron quickly evolved. Following creative direction from Sands Entertainment Management, the system expanded into a dual-surface LED cube featuring both outward-facing and inward-facing displays. This shift increased the total LED area by nearly 60%, demanding a complete re-evaluation of engineering requirements, load calculations, and structural design. Solotech collaborated with partners to ensure the system met NBA-regulated 12-meter height clearances while maintaining perfect parallel geometry between the two LED surfaces.
Despite the expanded scope, the timeline remained unchanged. From purchase order to delivery, only one month passed before the installation began. Solotech helped with the entire production pipeline (technical design, logistics, and on-site assembly), ensuring every component arrived, fit, and performed exactly as required.
The result was a suspended LED system unlike anything previously installed at The Venetian. Designed to support live statistics, replays, branding, and immersive visuals, the dual-surface display transformed the arena into a 360-degree viewing environment, giving every spectator, from courtside to upper tiers, a dynamic and uniform experience.
A Scalable Structure For Sands China’s Future Events
Although the structure was temporary for the two NBA Games, the investment is long-term. Sands China now owns the full ROE Visual Topaz inventory. They can redeploy it across multiple venues and special events, extending the value of the project far beyond the NBA activation.
“Solotech has been an incredible partner for many years,” says Jane Liu, Account Manager at ROE Visual. “It’s a proud moment for ROE to see Topaz at The Venetian in Macao and for it to be used in such a unique design.”
This project stands as a strong example of Solotech’s capacity to merge technical precision with experiential impact—delivering ambitious environments under pressure and creating unforgettable moments in world-class venues.
“The result at The Venetian Macao exceeded all expectations, said Bob Barbagallo, Senior Vice President, International Business Development at Solotech. It is a testament to the synergy between Solotech, the Sands team led by Cormac Veale, and Jane Liu’s team at ROE. ROE proved to be a solid manufacturer, enabling us to integrate a flawless solution under tight deadlines. We are proud to have delivered this landmark project for the NBA’s return.”
